When Hugh Masekela and J’Something announced their collaboration, people didn’t know what to expect, they got together and created a wonderful track Heaven In You which released late last year. With all their busy schedules of various projects they are committed in they manged to make time and released a beautiful music video for the song.
It is a simple music classy video with best quality and both singers as characters driving in a classic light yellow car. The legendary musician Masekela seem to be having no limitations, one would think aging and minor health scares would tire him when instead they push him to grow best in his musical career.
Few months back he revealed that he is working on a theatre play that he is gong to direct titled Gone Native – The Life and Times of Regina Brooks a story he said fascinated him at the age of 15 “The story of Regina Brooks always fascinated me. It happened when I was a teenager, in 1954 when I was 15. We all had a crush on her because she was so beautiful. The story of Regina is one of a white woman who defied apartheid and in 1955 asked to be re-classified as a coloured woman, which would enable her to live with her coloured child Thandi. This after she was arrested for staying in Orlando, Soweto, with a black man and cop Richard Khumalo.”
Another project is the collaboration he will be aving with Rap star Riky Rick at The Standard Bank Joy of Jazz festival set to take place in Johannesburg from the 28th to 30th of September 2017.
“The collaboration will see the dynamic rap-star, Riky Rick taking on some of Masekela’s most loved hits to re-imagine and remix them from his generational vantage point. The inimitable Masekela will also have a go at some of Riky Rick’s most memorable hits when the pair meet on stage on 20 September 2017 before an exclusive audience of music lovers invited to witness this special trans-generational creative exchange,” read the press statement.
