Cici Feels The Justice System Fails her and other Women – BUSISIWE Twala, prominently known as Cici expresse’s that the justice system has not protected her the man she accused of abuse walked away free.
Cici was addressing the crowd at the Soweto Theatre in Jabulani, where she was collaborating on a Stop The Violence Campaign talks hosted by media personality Masechaba Lekalake. Cici explained women did not report abuse due to the lack of conviction of perpetrators.
“I spoke out about abuse, opened a case, went to court and gave enough evidence but my perpetrator was found not guilty,” she said.“There has to be a point where you say it stops with me.”
She referenced the abuse she allegedly suffered at the hands of her former boyfriend, kwaito icon Arthur Mafokate.
It was her with, Youth activist Malaika wa Azania and actress Shoki Sebotsana on the panel. Cici focused her point that women have attempted various remedies to face gender-based violence, and it was time men take an initiative.
“Men need to have a dialogue with themselves on how we can change this,” she said.
