First ever Pan-African Singing Competition, Season 1 Comes to an End

The finale of the continent’s only pan-African singing competition, Old Mutual’s Amazing Voices, will be broadcast this Sunday, 5 April. The winner will walk away with the phenomenal grand prize of $100 000 (around R 1.5 million).The competition has unearthed great talent across a variety of genres in its inaugural year. The genres include gospel, pop and R&B and the participating countries this year are Ghana, Kenya, Zimbabwe and South Africa. The top three groups in the running on Sunday are:

  • Simply Six – South Africa
  • Wanavokali – Kenya
  • Afrikariz – South Africa

Since kicking off in September 2019 with a gruelling audition process, contestants have shared how the judging process and the overall experience has inspired, motivated and empowered them to become their exceptional best. “As with all our sponsorship’s, we strive to go beyond just providing financial support,” explains Bandile Mngoma, Sponsorship Manager at Old Mutual.  In partnership with DStv, Old Mutual arranged for the participants to benefit from the guidance and expertise of the show’s Music Director, Zwai Bala.”Contestants received life-changing training on a weekly basis and learnt more about the music industry, how to develop and uplift their singing skills as well as advice from the Old Mutual financial education team on managing money responsibly. “We are excited that our music sponsorship’s have enabled us to tap directly into people’s passions and help build and showcase our continent’s awesome talent,” says Mngoma. “For us it has been a great way to demonstrate our commitment to supporting communities across the continent. “We are confident that Season 2 will be even better and broader in reach than Season 1, as we aim to add more countries to the line-up.”The Old Mutual Amazing Voices Season finale will be broadcast on Sunday, 5 April 2020 on Mzansi Magic, Mzansi Wethu, Africa Magic, Maisha Magic East and Zambezi Magic at 17:00 South African time and 18:00 Kenyan time.  The official winner will be voted for by public vote and announced on 5 April.For more information visit Africa Magic website–
